Great local businesses supporting the arts.

Murfreesboro's art community doesn't quite compare to Nashville's rapidly growing network of artisans and impressive number of galleries. However, Art Life is working to improve what we have going on here in the boro, and there are a couple of local businesses doing their part to support the arts as well.

Mesh Boutique: 113 W. Lytle St.

One of those places is Mesh Boutique located on 113 W. Lytle Street. Their store is filled with work from local artists, and all of the jewelry, clothes, and bath products are usually handmade. If you look them up on facebook, you'll see regular updates of all the fantastic items they're selling.

JoZoara Coffee Shop - 536 N. Thompson Lane

Another great local business supporting the arts is JoZoara coffee shop located on 536 N. Thompson Lane in the same area as Ross and Marshall's. Not only is their coffee amazing, but they're also selling a ton of local art with 100% of the sales going directly to the artists. They also recently hosted F.E.A.S.T. - Funding Emerging Artists with Sustainable Tasks. This event was a dinner that raised funds for a mini-grant, which any artist or local organization could submit a proposal and offer a presentation for why they should recieve the grant. If this event continues to take place in the future, Art Life will definitely be attending and applying for the grant.

Art Life plans to be releasing a zine in October, and we have every intention of using it to promote our local businesses that support the arts. This is just a taste of whats to come! Thanks for reading!

Meeting

Art Life will be having a meeting to discuss our upcoming fundraising party among other things tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 8pm at 423 Kings Hwy. Anyone who is interested in becoming involved in Art Life is welcome to attend! Hope to see you there!

Fundraising Party and $5 Art Sale

Art Life presents our Art blog!

Thanks for taking the time to check out our blog! Art Life is a group of visual artists and musicians in Murfreesboro, TN working to strengthen our local art community. We seek out ways to provide more exhibition opportunities for local artists, and we provide a networking group so that all the creative professionals in our area can collaborate and inspire one another.

Here are some things Art Life will be doing for the remainder of 2010:

• Monthly art exhibitions at local businesses (and sometimes our homes....)
• Lots and lots of art parties where we all get together and paint, draw, make jewelry or whatever other creative thing we do
• Monthly fundraising parties to help raise money for Art Life and further promote our cause! 
• Coming in October: Art Life Zine! Promoting all the artful happenings here in the boro
• In November: our holiday craft fair at YEAH (www.youthintheboro.org)

That's just a short list of what we have in the works, and I'm sure it will continue to grow. Keep checking back here for updates on our August Fundraising party, which will be on the 21st, where will be having a $5 art sale, which is exactly what it sounds like - an entire table full of incredible works of art for only $5!
